Icon Maker...

buddy_icon_94I was working on a client’s website today and ended up searching around for a font. I never did find the font, but I did find a nifty site called Frank’s Icons. Specifically, because I was looking for a font with a heart dotted i, I dropped into the broken heart poka dot icons. I’m not sure if it was curiousity or what, but I started playing with it and ended up with this little icon to the right. It’s totally lame, but see how easy it is? Thought it would be nice to share this little resource with everyone.

Lookie, Lookie...

Oh boy, do I have a treat for you! Some people may remember Lala Land from back in the day and for them, we’re going on a trip down memory lane. Yes, we are. I got an old computer working (by using parts from an even older computer) so that I could get what I needed to complete the history of this domain. I’m not completely happy with what I have, but gosh does it bring back some memories. And you know, I wasn’t exactly as articulate as I thought I was back then. Oh well. Are you ready?

Lalaland.nu was registered in 2000 and unfortunately I don’t have anything from before then, however I do have some uber tiny thumbnails of the original 9 layouts. Looking at them now I really know they suck, but back then they were amazing. Haha. I see sites out there now that look like it did back then, actually. So anyway, here they are.

1 2 34 5 6 7 8 9 10 11

I’m working on the History page that will include more information about the site itself, along with more graphics from back then. None of the links to the original sites work, but I also have some old awards I was given that I plan to put up, too. Most of the old buttons are pretty ugly, but I’ve found one that I think is nice enough to put up. It looks like there’s a big gap of files I don’t have, probably on that old hard drive I have packed away, but this should be more than enough to give people an idea where this site comes from.

I hope you all enjoyed taking this trip back to 2000-2002. I know I have.

Plugins I Like...

I spent today working on my personal domain and installing or uninstalling a lot of plugins to make the site work. Since I went through all the hassle to find just the right plugins to do what I wanted to do, I thought I’d share them with you. I think they’re all great plugins for a personal site.

  • Akismet Along with the Wordpress API Key will allow you to block spam comments. Does a great job blocking, but also blocks one of my friends. Wonder why..
  • Bubs Button Board A plugboard for your site. Everyone loves leaving their button on someone else’s site.
  • Clean Archives The only archive script I use. I don’t like having archives in the sidebar, I prefer to have them on a page of their own.
  • DoFollow Google is the only search that follows “nofollow” but if you use this plugin, it will remove that tag from all the links in your blog. I’ve also heard that it might lower your Page Rank, too.
  • FlickrRSS Show your latest Flickr photos on your site. I love this.
  • Reinvigorate The best website stats program ever. I highly suggest it.
  • Theme Switcher I used to use this on my site, but I’m going to be disabling it now because my theme is way different from the others.
  • WP-Contact Form Everyone needs a good contact form. Very simple.
  • WP-UserOnline Tell everyone how many people are on your site. Also includes a dashboard page telling you who’s online and everything about them.
  • WP Grins Adds smilies to your posts and comments.

I’m looking for more great plugins, too, so if you have some you use on your personal site that you’d like to recommend, comment and let me know.

The Future of Computers...

I found this over on Dodo’s site and I just had to share it.

I think I’ll stick to my Touchsmart Tablet.

Hosted by Lalaland.nu...

This domain is still unfinished, but any good site should always be a work in progress. Nonetheless, I’d like to begin offering subdomain and addon domain hosting. If you’re interested, just comment on this entry and I’ll come take a look. I’ll email you if you’re accepted.
