Self Control? What’s That?...

I was a bad girl today. Instead of working on this site, like I told you I was going to, I went to the beach, then stopped in at Best Buy and bought a new laptop. But not just any laptop. I got the TouchSmart tablet. I love my TouchSmart PC so much, I thought the only thing better would be a portable one I could put into my pocket. Well, almost.

I was a little put off by the small size at first. I was kind of hoping to hold out for a bigger one. Jay and I made a deal, though, that if I were to get this one and a bigger one would come out, he’d take this one and I could get the new one. Does that man spoil me, or what?

You’re asking who ‘Jay’ is, aren’t you. Well, he’s the man who created the muse, which caused me to create Lala Land in the first place back in (oh wow) 1999. It was a simpler time back then for the web. You could be a internet celebrity with the help of The Palace and Paint Shop Pro (think: dolls). Anyway, we decided to have a baby, but then had to be apart for a while when I was pregnant, so I spent my days working on websites. The fluffy pastel colored one named Lala Land was a big hit.

For those of you who know of this site already, I’m going to take you down memory lane in a future post. I have some files from those good ol’ days that I’ll share when I can hunt them down. Great stuff, really.

Get Rolling.....

I’ve gotten the help I needed to get my header image in place, I just need to check it in FireFox (the only browser I don’t have) before I move on. Then I’m going to be working on the site’s design, making it look all spiffy. I chose the theme I’m using now because I don’t really want to put a lot of effort into the base code for now, and the designer who created this theme has some quality code. You can actually find the coding and adjust it to your needs. He also provides the PSD, which is extremely useful.

If you happen to drop  by while I’m working on it, let me know what you think!

Teeny Update...

I figured I’d take a minute to report on my progress. I found this neat theme (I’ll post about the developer soon) and I’m trying to customize it for myself. First, though, I need to add an image in a strange place and I need the developer (creator of the coding) to tell me how to do it. Once I get that image in there, I’m going to buy it from iStock, change the colors in the theme, and really get to work making it look the way I want it to. I really feel like customization is my niche. It takes a little coding and a little graphic know-how, which is exactly what I have – a little.

I got the Plugboard working. I’m going to wait to customize that page until I have more buttons in there. Seems silly to go ahead and customize it now, having no idea how the buttons will look later, then having to do it all over again. I’ve put up a few empty content pages, too. Should give me (and you, if you’re even here) an idea what’s to come and where it’s gonna go. I also put in Twitter, cuz it’s so flippin popular and I wanna be popular too. *swoon*

Other than these few things, I haven’t really accomplished much. I feel like I can’t move forward without this one thing I’m waiting for. I know that’s silly, because I could be working on content, but it’s still holding me back. And it sucks. I’m going to be going around soon and checking out what other people have that interests me to have on my own site, so if anyone comes here from one of my comments.. I’d love some suggestions!

Hiya Folks!...

Here I am, starting again. How many times over the years have I said, “I’m going to get Lala Land up again!”? And how many times have I followed through and finished? Gosh, it feels like a lifetime ago that I used to work on this site and actually changed the layout. Pretty intense, huh? It kind of was a lifetime ago for me. I feel so much different than I did then. I feel more wise, more mature, and less fun. Hah. But I’m hoping to get this all going again and to make it the great site it was all those years ago.

I was working on another site, trying to put it all up, when it hit me.. Lala Land is still sitting there unused. The site I was working on was the same type of thing I wanted for Lala Land, so it seemed stupid not to just put it up there. Then I realized it was actually perfect. I already had a layout, an image, and a content idea. So I’ve decided to throw away that other domain and come back to the one I love. Not to mention, it already has 2 Page Rank.

I feel sort of liberated right now. I feel like I finally have what I need to get my ideas in order and to continue on making sites that make me happy, rather than just sites. I’m condensing down so I can foces on my loves and I really think it’ll be good for me, and my sites. Hope to see you all back here soon. And I’d really love to hear from anyone who may have visited this site in the past.
